Houston Christian University Accused of Failing to Respond to Student-Athlete's Sexual Assault Allegations
Former Student-Athlete Files Lawsuit Against Houston Christian University Over Sexual Assault Allegations
A former track coach at Houston Christian University (HCU) has been accused of sexual misconduct against female students in two lawsuits. Sesar Figueroa, the former associate head track coach and recruiting coordinator at HCU, is accused of using his position to take advantage of female student-athletes, according to the lawsuits. Allegations against Figueroa include sending sexual messages, giving gifts, introducing alcohol to students, offering opportunities in exchange for sexual favors, and repeatedly insisting on private meetings with female students. The most recent lawsuit, filed on behalf of Jane Doe #2, accuses Figueroa of "physically and mentally assaulting and degrading" a female student-athlete and "subjecting her to sexual advances and sexual innuendo." The first lawsuit, filed on December 30, accuses Figueroa of getting a female student-athlete drunk and coercing her into having unprotected sex, after which she was forced to take an emergency contraception pill. University officials have said they are "troubled by any and all allegations of misconduct" and are cooperating with law enforcement. It was said that more lawsuits will be filed and that the university needs to "come clean."
