Las Vegas High School Student Sues School District for Failing to Protect from Bullying

February 6, 2023

In Las Vegas, a former student of the Clark County School District is suing the district and the parents of the students who he claims bullied him. Nicholas Monroe, 17, says that three classmates began harassing him online and that the harassment escalated to physical violence, including a brutal beating at school. Monroe alleges that he suffered injuries to his head, neck, shoulders, chest, back, legs, hips, knees, ankles and extremities, as well as a brain injury. He also claims that when he sought help from the district, they failed to protect him. Monroe's attorney says that he receives 10 inquiries a week from students looking to sue bullies and their parents. The end goal, according to Leavitt, is to hold the parents accountable for their children's behavior, even if it means hitting them in their pocketbooks. The teens being sued and their parents do not have a lawyer listed on court records. A jury trial is scheduled for September 5, 2023.
